Narrated by Quentin Cooper, Out of the Blue was produced by Panache Productions with support from the NERC BlueMicrobe knowledge transfer network. Interviews and location filming cover bioprospecting, molecular technologies, cell signalling, biofilms, and the versatility of viruses. Computer-generated imagery, by Glynn Gorick and others, provides novel insights into the complexity of microbial interactions and evolution. The 35-minute, PAL format DVD is intended to be of interest to non-specialists as well as those working in the field, and has received very positive feedback from both academics and industrialists. Limited “free issue” copies are still available - if you are interested in receiving one, please contact Paul Lonsdale. Phil Williamson describes the significance of M & FMB research in an article for NERC's in-house magazine Planet Earth details (PDF format 311KB) Report on marine biotech opportunities -
